Board Retreat 2014
Hello and Happy 2014 Flagstaff. I wanted to let you know that in January the Communicators board met at the beautiful Fall Inn To Nature Bed & Breakfast for a one day retreat. We covered a lot of topics and had a very productive discussion. With a Board of Directors of now 10 members we began effectively assigning positions and creating subcommittees to work on specific areas. We formed 6 separate committees that will meet on their own time outside of the board meetings on Public Relations, Organization (bylaws, elections), Scholarship, Membership, Ask An Expert and Programs (meeting topics). There are a lot of things we can do as an organization and a lot of people with ideas. I think more specific job titles and sub committees will help us all focus more on what needs to be done and make our board meetings more productive. ***You don’t have to be a board member to be on a committee. Please let us know if you would like to help in any of the above areas.***
We offered everyone who is an ambassador to step into a more specific role. The one job description we did not fill is the Program Coordinator. I will be retaining this position for now with the help of the board and the new Programs Committee. It mainly involves working with the speakers, making sure they are accommodated and familiar with our meetings. I give the speakers a call ahead of each month and make sure they know what we are about, I also get all the required information from them (photo, blurb, topic title or basic subject so that we can create a title). I will usually get a basic idea of their topic so we can promote it through our social media. I also ask if they need projectors, laptops etc. and then meet them early at the meetings and guide them through it. A lot of this I will continue to do as president but it would be a great help if we had someone focused on it. We also recently lost our Membership Coordinator, a vital role that we would like to fill with someone who has vibrance, passion and can make it to the majority of our meetings. Up next for our luncheons is our annual series of Meet the Media panels. We are already planning our March luncheon Raised on Radio and will move into Meet the Press for April and T.V. in May.
